In Tulsa our union truck loaders ARE the walking dead. They are the oldest, most physicially decrepit guys on the crew. The able bodied guys get put on easy tasks like being pushers. And most of them smell as bad as gutter sleepers because they didn't change their diapers before the call started.

I had to go up and down 4 steep flights of stairs about 20 times in front of a customer last week as I toned out some cabling.

After about the 15th trip the guy looked at me and total me it would be less painful to carry my 300lb ass up the stairs then to watch me hobble and gasp and then collapse under the desk in a pile of wires.

I would just say that it's *very* nice for the huge number of people in this country who are the working poor - often two jobs, and still struggling to get by. If the lower gas prices mean that maybe they can occasionally splurge on a concert ticket, or even to see a band in a local bar, then our industry benefits.

That's true for many things in life... another factor for small gas station owners is what the price was when they filled up their big gas tank in the ground.

While a high volume gas station can't use that excuse very long.

JR

Apparently the tanker drivers in this area are cross training with NASCAR.  Every station in my area jumped their price .28/gal in one afternoon.  I heard a rumor the other day of a 3% price increase in crude, so a 19% increase at the pump seems about right ???

Something happened.  "Cheapest" station in town went from $1.509 to $1.659 since Monday.

Yep, Tulsa is currently in the $1.509/gallon range.

Also interesting is the price of packer trimmed beef brisket has gone from $2.46/lb back up to $2.96/lb.

I'm currently working on a dissertation that links the price of gasoline to the price of beef. My theory is that the roughnecks produce less when beef prices are high because their morale is low since they have to pay more for barbecue and and thus don't work as hard. And then of course, as gas prices go up, so do beef prices since it costs more to feed, tend and deliver beef. It become a sort of feedback loop between the oil and beef industries.
