First, NBC didn't "run out."  All the prop mics were destroyed in Hurricane Sandy when the entire NBC warehouse was flooded.

Second, manufacturers could give mic shells but none have offered.

Third, what difference does it make.  No one believes they are singing anyway so a wooden dowel painted black with an orange windscreen would suffice.  I think they shouldn't use any prop mics.  The Broadway show segments don't use hand mics since in the theatre, the mics, if they are real, are totally hidden.

First that sucks didn't know that and I do know.

Second- true

Third I think you would be surprised how many people think they actually sing. I do agree that for me at least it would be better with nothing at all. I saw one act that was that way. I think it was school of Rock. He was a good actor and sold it well.

I saw a few acts that didn't use a prop, but as Peter states, who gives a rats ass. The kids don't, the parents don't, and obviously the act can't spend 3 hours singing the same tune over and over. It's entertainment and it was done well, so add me to the list of people who could give a rats ass.

My bad.

Don't get me started on the nonsense of that term!

Bob is right.  No one would want to play or sing the same song over and over again for however many hours this lasts.  It's not as if people have paid money for tickets.

Audio Technica with the help of Steve Sevanyu has agreed to manufacture 20 of their 5000 series mic shells and give them to the Macy's parade Parade.  Now you just won't know if some act is Lip-syncing or not......

Cheapest way to 'endorse' an event ever!
