JBL builds the best speakers? How is that possible when Bose has long claimed the same thing? How can they both be right? Or are they both full of shit?

Shame on you for using JBL and Bose in the same sentence.

I guess it depends on what market you mean? While I will say that Bose makes some absolute sham ass crap, they also make some really good things too. Things that JBL can't touch. I hate to say it, but the docking stations that JBL makes are pretty blah. Bose has the noise cancelling market pinned and their home theater stuff is pretty good. JBl makes better pro grade stuff for sure, but it only simply means that each manufacturer ( beyond the two in this topic )  is the best at something.

I'v had many many Junk But Loud speakers over the years. Ciare , FaitalPro , Radian and DDS built the best drivers. I build the best stage stacks using those drivers. Baltic birch trees grow themselves into the best wood to use for PA cabinets and Tama drums which are also the best. Ford makes the best pickup truck and cars. Windows XP Pro is still the best and

Cut and paste....

The first rule of parity involves the Alice in Wonderlandish use of the words "better" and "best." In parity claims, "better" means "best" and "best" means "equal to." If all the brands are identical, they must all be equally good, the legal minds have decided. So "best" means that the product is as good as the other superior products in its category. When Bing Crosby declares Minute Maid Orange Juice "the best there is" he means it is as good as the other orange juices you can buy.

Terrible I know but in this case the shoe fits. I am no Orange Badge lover but I respect what the company has achieved over the years in driver and system advances. I have no respect for Bose at all but the title of this production just struck me as Bose-esque patronizing propaganda so I couldn't even bring myself to watch the video.

It also depends on the skill of the hands the drivers are placed in.  Most drivers present a number of anomalies in magnitude and phase response that can be dealt with in horn/cabinet design and electrical correction; very, very few are "right" directly out of the box.

And those come with a "price".

Sometimes it is $$$$, sometimes it is limited output capability, sometimes physical size etc.

It is always a matter of "compromise".
