Contact with Jodi Foster has an H3000 Harmonizer in her lab.

There was a British TV detective series in the 90s which had one episode where they analysed a voice waveform. The main piece of hi tech equipment shown was a Trace Elliot bass amp!

As amusing as it is, some times the most basic of tech is what works the best. NASA spent millions of dollars to develop a pen that would work up in space. What did the Russians do? They used a pencil.

(At least I hope that's true. It was on The West Wing.)

The pen company Fisher developed the pen and gave it to NASA for free. Pencils in space are a bad idea, conductive graphite pencil lead breaks and electronics are a bad idea without gravity. Gives a new expression to the term "floating ground"!

Reminds me of a floating peat mat I saw on a lake in Russia. It even had small trees growing in it! Apparently, some peat mats around the world are substantial enough to hold small structures.

That's a great trivia question.  I know it had a ball head.  It was blinged up because he could rotate a knob and match the audio waveform of the heartbeat and then invert it and sum it in the "Library Computer"  not bad for a system that had a display so small you had to peer into a viewmaster to see it.

Not sure about that specific prop, but most of the handheld sickbay gear was salt and pepper shakers, painted white or whatever.  They added a few sparkle FX in post IIRC.
