Every time i see something like this, it is always a trailer that gets targeted. Makes me scared to use mine - they are easy to spot and usually have something worth money sitting inside.

I had a friend that had a trailer full of expensive hunting decoys. He printed Stinkys Septic Service on the side of it with a phone number of someone that has screwed him over. He never had anyone mess with it.

Not a bad idea ..LOL.. Might have to cover the sign writing with magnetic blanks whilst at a show though…..

BTW….Chuck..I sent a message to my friend in Erie with a list of stolen items..I know it is  couple of hours from you but I figured it would be worth spreading the word. He is a guitar player and he works for a local sound company there.

Sorry to hear the news, Chuck.

I wonder if manufacturers might be able to insert some sort of anti-theft mechanism in their digital consoles and "smart" amps?  Make 'em phone home once in awhile or require unlock codes?

Hope the stuff surfaces.  Do you have serial numbers documented?

Thanks Deb.  Wouldn't be Raven sound, would it?  They've got some good people there. I would bet that my gear has left town. An Expression 3 showing up on Craig's List would stick out like a sore thumb in this town!

Yeah Dave.  I have some serial numbers, but in checking my receipts, I am surprised to see how many venders don't include serial numbers on the receipt.

Unsure where he is now…he used to work at A-Line…..they build systems and install I believe…I know he got busy playing again so he might just be doing that now. He knows a lot of folks though.
Hopefully the thieves need money quickly and take short cuts causing some raised eyebrows….

In my town, there's a trailer parked beside a house along the main drag. Every time I go by, it's sitting on a bumper jack, missing a wheel. Not sure if that's an abandoned repair project, or some kind of theft prevention.

A friend of mine had a trailer hitch ball with the threaded portion cut off. He'd lock that into the tongue to make it hard to hitch up to anything.

None of this improves Chuck's immediate situation, of course, but may help others in the future.

1)  This gadget would at least slow down would-be thieves from removing the entire trailer (provided they don't show up with a flat bed):

http://www.reeseprod.com/products.aspx/trailer-accessories/coupler-locks/coupler-lock/WV5KcOu1jGVYPeJBYBL677XEzzoqq80t

2)  Re: Documenting Serial Numbers - digital pics and cloud storage are convenient and should be the first step after unpacking new items.

3)  More resistant locks on the trailer doors (as already mentioned).

4)  Parking the trailer/truck so doors can't fully open (can be a PITA, but so is losing gear).

5)  When all else fails, surround the vehicle with a pack of rabid dogs...

Re:  False signage - a friend, who is a one-man-band performer, had suffered two vehicle break-ins on two trips to NYC. Prior to his third trip, he lettered his panel truck with "University of Wisconsin - Zoology Department.  CAUTION - Venomous Reptiles".  Served as a deterrent back in the day.  May attract folks nowadays ??? .

Re:  Missing wheel as a theft deterrent - reminds me of the weekend we played the Lone Star Cafe in NYC.  The first night, fortunately, friends of ours saw someone trying to steal our van.  Their pointing at the thief caused him to change plans and jump into his waiting getaway taxi.  He'd gotten as far as busting out the ignition switch - so, it was a close call.  The next two nights, we pulled the battery before heading into the club.

As already mentioned, nothing is 100% effective in stopping a truly motivated thief.  And nothing makes the loss suck less.
