Looks Like I'm Building a New System
« on: October 08, 2015, 01:04:32 PM »

Hi everybody, been a while since I have posted here.  The reason I will be putting together a new system is because someone stole my old one.  I live in the country and have always felt secure leaving my gear locked in my trailer in my driveway.  I have been doing some wedding gigs lately so I have been working out of my van with a smaller system and had not been in my trailer for over a week.  Last Sat morning I noticed the locks missing from the ramp door of my trailer.  They were heavy duty locks, but someone cut the latches on the trailer. Can you imagine what I felt when I opened my trailer and found it empty?  They must have run out of room in their truck because they left one sub.  It had taken me years to build my system - JBL SRX722's, 712's in rolling cases, QSC amps, XLF subs, Soundcraft Expression3 in flight case, stands, mikes, cables - everything!  Not yet sure how much my homeowner's policy will cover.

I know, I should have had a better insurance policy, I don't need to be reminded of that.  I am currently having a security system installed.

Is there somewhere I should post a complete list(other than the police and my insurance co.)?

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.  You could post a list of stolen equipment on craigslist I suppose.  I would also keep an eye on craiglist, ebay, and reverb to see if any of your gear shows up for sale.

I would also give a copy of the lists to any local pawn shops or music stores that buy used equipment.

Chuck,
Very sorry to hear of the theft. Post the list in the basement and please change your profile so we know what part of the world you live in.

Pittsburgh.

It's in his profile if you click on his name but it's not in the info under the name.

Sorry to hear of this Chuck, and for some personal reasons too. I also live in the country and leave my gear in a trailer hopefully secure with locks like these. We all know if some ass wants to steal anything bad enough it will happen. Just wondering what others in the same situation might be doing?

That looks more secure than mine.  I used conventional looking locks and they cut the latch around it.

Yep. It takes about 10 seconds if you have power tools. A little longer if you are using a hacksaw blade.

These locks are a little better:

Since they don't rely on the trailer's aluminum latch they are harder to circumvent. They are still vulnerable to a drill though. You can drill out the 3 bolts on the right and get into the trailer. It takes a while though and requires a big drill bit.
