Don, you are implying the BBE is more then just an EQ,  can you verify this? I have very little experience with the unit... But the little experience I do have did not indicate this.

We measured them extensively back in my Mississippi days. The low EQ is simple low boost. The bypass function is not a true bypass ( but who uses one in bypass?). But the eq for the highs is dynamic. You get more boost to the HF as the level drops and very little at full level. The effect is to begin to compensate for Fletcher-Munson. There are a number of similar "dynamic EQ" plug ins currently being used with digital mixers.

They are a tool like any other tool. Used correctly and in the right place they have a lot of value and they can also be misused. Besides all the misdirected marketing nonsense they suffer from very little headroom. Only the 800 series can be used without adding external pads. So there is a lot of clipping when using the other series units.

By some cruel twist of fate the video that followed that one was entitled "Ausmusic - Observing the Setup & Operation of a Stadium PA" which featured an old acquaintance who goes by the name of Big Mick Hughes. Talk about going from one extreme to the other

Did anyone happen to save the awful videos from this link? Most of them are no longer on Youtube (I think only the one in the OP survives), and I was looking forward to watching them again today. A loss for society if we can no longer watch these...
