Take a look at the FBT Mitus 206L. I have heard a 4 cabinet "dash array" of these and it didn't sound bad. Your budget might get you a few more than that which could only improve it.

The high and low sections are both spec'ed at 16 ohms. You don't mention in your post what kind of amps are available, but at that impedance a couple of big dog amps could drive the whole rig.

I expect that would be over budget, given it would take more cabs to hit the target spl.

When you say 100dB-what exactly is that.

A or C -slow or fast or peak response.  There can be as much as a 30 difference between those numbers.

One thing to be very carefull when looking at SPL numbers in models.

Most of them give PEAK or maximum output at a specific freq.

What you "feel" or measure with a cheap SPL meter will be 10-15dB BELOW that.

That is a MAJOR consideration that need to be looked at when modeling.

It IS important to understand what the model is telling you.

Also it is NOT the number of boxes.  Remember they come in all different sizes.  But RATHER the TOTAL cost of the system.

Hello all. I am looking for suggestions of line array boxes to consider for a venue I work at. Let me try and give as many details of use and our needs as possible. Please ask me for more if I have left out any important parameters. The venue is dead set on a line array so suggestions of anything else is not helpful.

Our parameters

  • Area to cover is 120 feet wide and 250 feet deep
    generally covering from 100-800 people
Levels wanted at FOH 100 feet back would be 100db. The venue is designed so those are the back can talk comfortably.
Budget per box is $2000 used or new
    Passive not powered
Looking at using no less than 4 boxes a side
would be hung anywhere from 20-40 feet in the air
Processing and plenty of power is already provided by venue
Rigging hardware costs are not needing to be considered
size and weight does not matter
brand and rider acceptability does not matter
    cross-renting ability does not matter
    would be permanently installed
intended use is live music of every genre. Mostly country and classic rock.
Proper subs are already venue provided

We currently use flown multiple EV QRX 212 boxes for small events there in this space and love the smooth high end. Prefer smooth *hifi* sound rather than in your face or harsh high end. IE: Vertecs we have rented in the past. Sound is subjective but this is all about opinions any how.

Assuming that the FBT Modus is still available and would model well in your room... It might be an excellent fit.
