Promoters...
« on: August 29, 2015, 10:27:13 PM »

Promoter: "ticket sales sucked, can you cut me a break on production tonight?"

Me: "last time ticket sales were great, did I get a bonus?"

Conversation over.

The thing is, they need to have money in the bank to pay all bills associated with the show. They may not get it all back. Some nights they make a pile, some nights they lose a pile, it's not my concern, that's the business they got into. I did not get into a business model that pays based directly on audience showing up, but me and my gear and crew showing up.

You still pay the plumber even if nobody ever craps in the toilet...

Absolutely they have to be able to pay you.  That's what they signed up for.

Some people have comfortable jobs where they get paid regardless of whether there is work on.

Others get paid only for the hours they work.

Promoters only get paid if the overall enterprise is a commercial success.  Yep, that's what they signed up for, but those at the pointy-end of commercial endeavor have my respect.

Kind of like being a small sound company owner, but I don't ask my vendors for a break after the fact because I am unsuccessful or short money.

I respect that it takes balls to be a promoter, but I need cash with those balls...

If he pays the cash, he can keep his balls.  :-)

Promoters exist to make used car salesmen and "psychics"  appear to be honest.
