I remember things like that back in the 80s.

It was an attempt, at least of putting on paper a system requirement.

If it was a 1000 cap venue, you needed 10,000 watts for the mains. Then of course you needed enough speakers that wouldn't melt down with 10 kilowatts behind them.

Of course it didn't say anything about what kind of coverage was expected! Lol. We ended up with concert series JBL's stacked in a long wall. All pointed straight ahead! Hahaha

Bullwinkle: This is the amplifier, which amplifies the sound. This is the Preamplifier which, of course, amplifies the pree's.

Or taking sensitivity into account (which can often greatly outweigh power in terms of being able to get loud)

And there was a pretty wide range of sensitivities back then

You had front loaded and large horn cabinets-both for lows-mids and highs.

I know I've posted this before, but here is my system back in '88.

You can see a nice "variety" of various horn cabinets there.

Lots of Heil there...reminiscent of the exhibit at the Rock & Roll HOF.

That's more of a questionable product...
You can get a heck of a "Bose-Free" system for $8K. Got to give them credit - they know how to charge.

Actually there is no Heil there.

I did like his color scheme-so I copied it.

All but 8 of the cabinets were my construction.

Then you ought to see my office and restroom at work.

My restroom walls are covered with photos of old PA systems-adds-festivals etc

In my office-there is one wall that has something like 110 vintage amplifiers-from the 70s and 80s

The pride of the collection is a Crest 8001, serial number 001.

I have a complete Shure vocal Master setup-including the slave amp and the rare tweeter banks

On another wall is lots of brochures, adds, catalogs etc from the 70s and 80s

Here is a photo of my desk (at least before I covered it up with "Stuff" that I am working on)

The Kustom red speakers have been HIGHLY HIGHLY modified/hotrodded and really rock now.  I have a 2400 watt/ch amp I drive them with.

Pretty decent computer speakers
