Recommend wireless hand held mic - £200?
« on: July 04, 2015, 04:59:59 PM »

Hi,

I'm looking to pick up a hand held wireless mic for mainly speech and occasional singing. My budget is around £200.

What would you recommend?

p.s. I used a KAM radio mic recently and it was pretty poor. The capsule was EXTREMELY sensitive to popping and feedback!!

I had a chance to use a set of GTD wireless mics recently (video guy's at a small conference). They were decent. You won't mistake them for a high-end mic, and I can't speak to their musical ability.

I've had reasonable results with Behringer in the past (again, someone else's). Downside is that they cannot be repaired - I'd expect the same with the GTD.

I'd personally rather use a low-end Shure, but that is probably more than 200 GBP.

Thanks for the reply. I'm considering the following options :-

Alto Radius 200 - http://www.altoproaudio.com/products/radius-200

AKG WMS 420 - http://www.akg.com/pro/p/wms420system

Sennheiser XSW 35 - http://en-us.sennheiser.com/wireless-vocal-microphone-system-singers-speakers-presenters-xsw-35

Anyone have any experience with these?

We don't have the Alto's down here, but this price class is OK for speach.

Maybe you can look for a used EW100?

Save yourself some money. Use a mic that's under £200 and sounds good and is very reliable.

I already own a selection of wired mics ( JZ HH1, EV n/d767a, Sennheiser E838 and AKG D5 ) so am fine to use any of those generally but in some situations where people are doing conference type things and interviewing the audience I need wireless. Both the Sennheiser E838 and AKG D5 are very useable mic's and I would be happy with either of these in a wireless format if the wireless part is reliable!?
