How is SM80 even remotely comparable with the T24N?

They are both loudspeakers? and not line arrays?

Yes they are both speakers. And that is about it when similarities are in question.
I dont find SM80 a high output box. Not in my understanding of what high output box  should be.
The other one is horn loaded and higher Q box with about 9db more output then the SM80.
So in my book they are not really comparable.
SH46 yes, but SM80?

I love the tilt bracket and the aesthetics of the T24....It look to be on the pricey side.  Could not find even a list price on the web.

I have heard excellent reports about this box from Simon Coffin; his comments were exactly in line with Production Partner’s review.

FWIW as part of my DIY Mid Hi project I posted on SoundForm.net I actually took my best guess and modelled this box. Its design is excellent, perhaps a bench mark in terms of output for a 33 Kg box. I also model my best guess of the SM80.

The results I got were exactly in line with your comments of 9dB more, in fact there is an even greater advantage in the low - mids according to the model.

SH46-class output from a smaller cabinet weighing 45lbs less.  Not bad at all.
Would love to hear how this 2-way puppy sounds compared to the 3-way SH46, which has a really sweet midrange.

That Vera36 looks pretty interesting, too.  Almost a large-format output from a box weighing 85lbs is pretty darn good.

Another one I'd to hear is Coda Audio.

Hey Marc,

As Peter mentioned earlier, I used TW Audio products extensively while I was in Germany and highly recommend them.  I've never used Danley cabinets so can't provide much in the way of a comparison.  But, I can say the T24 is the best sounding speaker I have ever used.  It gets amazingly loud and stays stable especially when driven with the Hoellstern amps.  Two cabinets a side over 4 B30 subs (or whatever they call the double 15 sub) will cover a large area and all fits in a standard van.  Something that always amazed me was how consistent the coverage was.  Tonality was completely stable, they just got quieter or louder.  The rigging hardware is also absolutely first class.

They switched to Powersoft a while ago which gives them better marketing and distribution, and possibly a better suite of DSP tools.  I wasn't able to do a side by side comparison of the Powersoft versus Hoellstern amps, so sound quality may have changed slightly.  With either amp setup, TW Audio knows what they are doing.

They are apparently planning a US Distributorship, but are staying quiet about the timing.

Ciao

TW Audio is now in the US setting up their operation.  Phil Van Peborgh (formerly with Renkus Heinz) is heading up their US operation.  I can assist with any information requests.  We have used the product on a couple of outdoor festivals and it is really solid.
