Sort of off topic, but if you just want the blinding light effect, I'd just use some work lights.  I had used some Utilitech 500 watt work lights for a small show once and they worked great for the fact that they're $13 apiece.  Also have used the 250 watt version as an alternative to PAR's for stage lighting.  Not great, but it works.

Elation WW4 and WW2 LED blinders. They are LEDs but mimic old Mole Fays really well.
