Triad Orbit
« on: April 21, 2015, 03:40:33 PM »

Yeah, mic stands aren't exciting and don't attract a lot of enthusiasm.
Yet try to get through a show without them, or try working a show with a few misbehaving stands.

I have been a die-hard K&M guy forever.  My last collection of K&M stands was showing their age, and it was time for retrofits and replacements.  I then found out about Triad Orbit.

As far as being rugged, the Triad basic boom stand weighs as much as 2 k&m.  The ball arrangement for the boom makes for more flexible placement of the boom, and looks downright sexy.  Everything quick releases like an air chuck on an air hose.  Even my mic clips.
The tripod legs have adjustable locking positions.

Yeah price is about +%35 of a K&M but they have a feel like they will last longer.

They look excellent... and expensive!

But probably worth it.

I can only imagine the difficulties musos will have trying to adjust these. They already seem perplexed by the simple adjustments on a K&M 210/9.

I love it when the lead singer picks up the mic stand to rock out with it, and has to catch his balance because the stand is so heavy.

I saw these at NAB in the Whirlwind booth. They are nice but way too heavy for me. I do like the Micro 1 and 2 swivel adapters though and they might end up in the inventory.

$229 for the T2! A stand that costs more than the mic it holds is a bit unorthodox......... I wonder how good the stand sounds? They do look nice though, but for all intents and purposes a stand needs only hold a 1 pound ice cream cone and be durable enough to deal with a child who can't operate it.
