Going to see Lynyrd Skynyrd tonight
« on: March 27, 2015, 02:16:51 PM »

I never seem to have a night off that coincides with a good band in the area. But tonight it works :)

Last name concert I saw was 3 years ago. Santana/Winwood. Sounded terrible. I'm really hoping that it'll sound great tonight.

Hope they do a long version of Free Bird. I'm good with 20 minutes.

It's funny, we go to see concerts, not hear them... and we're sound guys!

I saw them not long ago. They played before ZZ Top. Great bands. Sound was not very good though.

So what's the verdict?

I just got home. What a great band! Southern rock blues is such a great style and having 3 guitars and a keyboard is perfect.
Lead vocal and guitars were always up front. Couldn't make out the kick or what the bass was playing. No cymbals or hat. No hi end in the system. Snare was quiet and toms were barely heard.
Guitars did sound great and I was able to make out all 3 until it got too loud.
Seemed like the system was very coherent between 300 and 3k which is probably why the guitar and vocal were up front. But it kinda had a megaphone quality about it with lots of lower bass. No idea what gear was used but I assume it was upper shelf stuff.
Again I listen to a line array and leave underwhelmed. Venue wasn't huge. Casino, 5k seating and it was sold out

You don't go home humming lighting cues.

It depends on what drugs you were using----------

It used to be said that knew a musical was good if the audience went away singing or humming some lines from the play.
