01v96 filters and used as crossover
« on: December 27, 2014, 10:12:07 AM »

I was setup with my smaart system this morning checking some speakers and wanted to check my 01v96 as well for filter slope on the lowcut and highcut. I had done this before but my pictures seem to have left for never/never land.

First picture is a reference set to 1000khz.
Next is low cut set to 1000hz. You'll see a 3db down point
Next is the measured 12dbs down at 500hz. Looks like the V's low cut filters are 12db per octave.

To use the 01v96 as a crossover taking 100hz and below out I first set the lowcut filter to 100hz. You'll see a 12db down point at 50hz.
Knowing that 2 - 12db filters give you 24dbs down I assigned the channel to a Bus and used that bus masters eq to add another 100hz low cut. (of course assigning the channel to st L/R )
In the pictures you can now see 6dbs down at 100hz 24dbs down at 50hz. 24dbs per octave.

Last I modeled at close aprox. to the filters with just 2 bands of the master eq section.
Low cut set to 200hz. Low-mid set to 112hz with a Q of 1.4 and a +6.5dbs of gain.
This gave a close aprox. of the 24db slope that running 2 100hz low cut filters in series did above.

Just wanted to put these up in case someone wondered what the filter slopes were in a 01v96 were and if they can be used as a 24db low cut filter.

I noted 2 80hz, 70hz 60hz etc low cut filters also yielded 24db slopes and the high cuts showed up as 2nd order or 12db cuts as well.

By quickly reading the manual you could gave saved a lot of time rather than all of your analysis.

True but no where near as fun!  ;)
Trust but verify as they say. I also wanted to see if I add two low cuts that I would get the expected results.
