You will (probably) still want to use the HPF on your sub.
Other replies have already mentioned this, but I just want to emphasize the point.

Mixer L -> EQ L -> Sub L (set switch to HPF) -> sub L out to Amp L -> Main speakers
Mixer Aux 1 -> EQ R -> Amp R -> Monitor

Backing tracks into 2 channels panned left.

In the event that you purchase more equipment, you can then add Mixer R -> sub R -> amp R -> Main R
+ one of the following
Mixer Aux 1 -> Powered speaker for monitor that has mini mixer built in with EQ
Mixer Aux 1 -> new EQ -> Powered speaker for monitor
Mixer Aux 1 -> new EQ -> new amp -> monitor speaker

  Won't that give me a mono mix on the mains?

Yes, but by using 2 input channels, it solves the problem of the disappearing info in the backing tracks.
If you absolutely insist on your backing tracks being sent to the mains in stereo (Left having different signal from the right) and you also want a monitor signal that has an independent volume control, then you need at least 1 more source of amplification. (Either a power amp for your existing monitor speaker, or a new powered monitor.)

Thanks Steve! And all who helped.
