Why is it so hard. The manufacturer specifies a cable for their product. Use it.

Over and over here in the forums there are discussions about problems when using something else. Duh!

When I bought my X32 system 18 months ago, they didn't recommend any specific cable.
I see they have amended that.

Cable specs are actually listed in the aes50 tech specs.

Dear All,
As others have pointed out, we recommend using a proper shielded cable with locking Ethercon connectors with the X32 products family.

We now have a 50m tour-grade Cat5e Network Cable available that is especially suitable for the X32 family, as well as other digital consoles. It is made in the UK by Neutrik, packaged with a high-quality German Schill drum, and available for an estimated retail price of US$ 249.

You can find more information about the cable here: http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/NCAT5E-50M.aspx

Hope it helps!

John

Very interesting product at what appears to be a very, very acceptable price point.  Is it available in the U.K. (I would have hoped so since you indicate that it is manufactured in the country)?  If so, who stocks it?  (Clicking on the "Buy Now" link doesn't really seem to help and the "named" stockists on the page all appear to be U.S. based).

Regards.

Dear All,
The cable will be available worldwide through our typical distribution channels. It has just recently began shipping from our factory so it may not yet be available at distributors in all regions but it is on the way. Please check with your local dealer / distributor for further availability information.

The SKU you are looking for is “NCAT5E-50M”. Thanks for your interest!

So upon further investigation, I found that I do have cable marked as STP which I understand is shielded twisted pair.
However, when I looked at the Ethercon connector at each end, there is no connection from the shield to the shell.
Unlike an XLR connector, I don't see a connection tab for the shell.
How do I make the shield to shell connection?

Shielded RJ45 connectors have a metal casing which makes a connection to the Ethercon shell.  The shield wire should be soldered or otherwise making a good connection to the metal RJ45.
