I bought a new PA today.
« on: September 28, 2014, 09:14:47 PM »

After reading about fictitious venues, make believe PA's, etc. over the past few days I decided to dump all of my JBL cabinets and purchase the system in the picture below. Reading the thread about make believe venues has convinced me that this is the system I need. Cost was a meager $300,000 and it definitely will fill a room.

My first gig will be in the dance hall you see in the background.

I did a gig for Otis Elevator once. Like every job, it had it's ups and downs.

Bob,

You are wise and experienced beyond your years, and I always learn from your observations on audio and guitar matters. However, I think you've made a grave mistake this time. If you look closely at the fellow in the center of the horns, I think you'll see this is most definitely an IEM system, not a PA. Maybe you didn't have your glasses on when you went to look at the system?

That was then, this is now.

Then, a listening devise for far distant enemy aircraft, now, he's got a pair of earbuds in place as drivers.  8)

How much per night for a show in Vegas Bob?

That's the beauty of my new system Henry, it can be used as an IEM or by yelling into the tubes as FOH with no mikes needed. For kick drum you put a funnel on the tube clamped with a clothes pin. You can tune the kick by squeezing the funnel.

Working LV depends on the size of the band. You need a horn for each instrument and 2 horns for each vocalist (1 for IEM, one for FOH). I charge by the horn, and then there's travel. I have to load my own trucks because believe it or not I'm finding it hard to rent horns in the LV area.

Strangely, there used to be systems for playing music in venues such as ice rinks which were powered by compressed air.

Steve.

I was not only at the 1906 prom, but invented the system.

Here is a picture of the flying suit I invented while in the navy. To aid in tracking the flights I had painted a large bullseye on the back which you can't see. Sound measurements were taken during the landings and it was determined that breaking bones generated up to 128db SPL and could be heard 1/2 mile away. Note the crotch strap made of elastic material to aid in protection of that lower region. The problem was that the elastic stretched during flight and resulted in a "spanking" motion that many found to be uncomfortable. Severe oscillations could raise your voice up to 3 octaves.
