I contacted Chauvet about this question but did not get a clear answer. I have a Chauvet Obey 40 DMX light controlled. This controller has multiple connections on the back to use. One of the connections is a 5-PIN DIM port (according to the manual) and looks similar to the "remote" connection on the back of Chauvet's fog machines. This DMX controlled has a dedicated fog button with a ready light on it that I would like to take advantage of. I just wanted to double check before I order a fog machine if it is possible to connect any of Chauvet's non-DMX fog machines to this DMX controller using the 5-PIN connection on both devices instead of the remote that comes with the fog machine? Sadly, it actually isn't. I ordered the right type of wire and it won't fit into the fog machine.

With all due respect, if it doesn't fit, it must not be the right cable. I suggest a call or e-mail to Chauvet is in order. The Obey 40 is designed to trigger Chauvet fog machines using the appropriate cable. Mark C.

"looks" like a 5-pin midi cable should work...otherwise you can order the appropriate cable from a dealer...

Sorry for the late response. I have no ordered two cables for this. The first one was a 5-pin DMX cable (that did not fit obviously). The second one was a MIDI cable which does fit and it also fits my Obey 40; however, it will not trigger the fog. I gave up and just decided I will use the remote. That is what I guess for not purchasing the DMX version of that fog machine I guess.

I did order the 5-pin MIDI and connected it and unfortunately it did not work. Like I said in the previous post, I gave up. Lol. Thanks for the help!

Some MIDI cables do not use all 5 pins. Make certain that the ones you bought do.
