The TH 118 has the output of two or more STX 828's and sounds much better. IMO, it's a no brainier if considering savings on weight vehicle space etc...

I've mentioned in several other threads related to this topic that two SM 80 can cover beyond what 4,  725 or 722 can.

How much are the TH118s?

I know I am on the brink of heresy here, but that is an incredible statement!  What exactly do you mean by "cover"?

I am curious as well.

A quick search found this: http://www.fohonline.com/newgear/7627-danley-sm-80.html

Looks like they list at $3,000 per box for the SM80.

And from here: http://mixonline.com/news/danley_th118_subwoofer_1705/

Looks like the subs list for $3,400

I'd love to hear the TH118 in person. I feel like I'm gonna get some s*** for this, but I'm a little skeptical. Not skeptical that the TH118's aren't fantastic subs, but skeptical that their output matches or is greater than 2 STX828s's all while sounding better (being more accurate). How can a single 18" driver move more air than 4 18" drivers, AND do it more accurately? Usually these very high efficient designs sacrifice something in sound quality.

Again, I'm holding all judgement on the TH118 until I hear one, and I'm not knocking it at all. I'm just a bit skeptical. I know Danley makes fantastic stuff and I would LOVE to hear one….or several.

Outdoor shows where I would have to unload 4-6 SRX 728 now get 2-4 TH 118.  Two is usually plenty. There is no comparison between the quality of sub bass of the TH 118 and 728/828  The clarity and throw of the SM 80 is amazing. You really need to hear it to believe it. All the venues, bands  and clients I deal with have noticed a big  improvement in my production when using the Danley system.

So you have actually compared a pair of SM 80s to four SRX 722/725s?  What were the conditions? What was the coverage area?   How were the JBL s processed and powered?

I would not be making these statements if I had no experience with any of the mentioned cabinets.

I own the 722,  used to own the 725(sold them for a bunch of 715).  One of the outdoor venues I work has several small festivals 500-1500 depending on the popularity of the act. The direct listening area is approximately 60'x 200'. I keep my mixes at 95dba,  105dbc or below.

All my SRX setups are processed and powered by crown ITech 4000/6000's.

I would love to hear a full Danley set up. What kind of crowds do you think 8 TH118's and 4 SH46's would be able to handle?
