6 SRX715 Plus ??
« on: September 01, 2014, 12:50:46 AM »

Looking to put together a rig for outdoor events, 2-500 people. One of our systems is a compact powered turbosound getup good to about 200 folks-ish.

If we rearrange some other systems, I can get 6 SRX 715's, 3/side. There are no subs available in our inventory for this system, so what would you recommend for adequate subs for this setup?

Music is various bands: rock, pop, full drums etc. Venue would be a portable 30x20 stage in parking lots. These are obviously older, passive speakers but in good repair, and serviceable. I'm not biased toward powered or passive for this system (the subs), whatever will get job done will make me happy.

I have no doubt that using 3ea. 715s per side will cause more problems than it will be worth unless properly splayed. Facing those cabinets straight ahead and placed side by side will cause any number of bad effects in open space. Packed tight, not so much, but only good if you have a need for some very wide coverage. A pair of 715s per side will work just fine for 2-500 people, again, when properly splayed and properly powered.

Your problem will be low end, which you've already realized, and that problem can be eliminated with a pair of SRX718s per side, or equal, as long as they are properly powered. You could even get by for that small crowd using a single 718 as long as the genre doesn't exceed the need for low end. High pass the 18's at about 85hz and all will be well.

Hi Jonathan,

I have a pair of subs (and tops, but looks like you are covered there) that would work well for what you are looking for.

They use a single Lab 12", but one Domino DFLH with the extender is close to the output of a JBL SRX728 dual 18" cabinet. A little more upper punch, just a little bit less LF, but each is about the same as a pair of 718 like Bob suggested.

The Domino sub was named for the thin cabinet shape, with more punchy bass using less power than most ported cabinets, yet taking up no more transport space,  and tall enough to stack top cabinets on top without needing poles.  A big horn that breaks down to a small package. The Domino can be used with or without the horn extender, which can be quickly taken apart and stores flat, taking up little storage space. With the horn extender one cabinet averages over 120 dB from 40-100 Hz using only 400 watts, the pair can do 136 dB peak with 3600 watts. 45 inches tall, 17 inches wide. 22.5” deep, 110 pounds using an Eminence Lab 12,  4.4 ohms. The horn extenders tops are 45 x 15 x 1.5, the sides are 43.5 x 22.75 x 1.5,  50 pounds total.

I have had them listed for $650 for the pair, including the extenders and hardware on Craig's list, can make you a special deal if your interested, including delivery. Give me a call 505 438-3294, I have tons of other stuff for sale too, maybe we could work some trades.

Also have one "Bowtie" 2 x Lab 12" sub available, similar output to a SRX 718 in a really small package, - 26.5" x 22.5" x 15",  800 watts continuous, 1600 peak, 126 dB/129 dB, 37 Hz to 106 Hz +/- 3 dB, -10 dB at 30 and 160 Hz.
