Short lightweight boom
« on: August 27, 2014, 01:09:08 PM »

Looking for a short boom (long enough to reach the floor for a ground plane measurement) to attach to one of these:

http://www.rationalacoustics.com/store/microphones/4-mini-tripod-stand.html

I couldn't find anything suitable on Manfrotto's site, or overlooked it.

Should be lightweight and cost less than the stand itself ;-)

TIA

edit: looks like 24" would be the appropriate length.

Check out Gollihurmusic.com

They sell bass hardware.  Look for the H-clamp Light device for mounting mics on double basses and cellos.  The boom should work for you and is very light aluminum.  I think it would be of use without too much finagling.

Why not just use any microphone stand, and actually put the mic on the ground? Just use the stand as a sort of 'traffic cone' so that your' mic isn't accidentally stepped on. You can go a step further tip the capsule down by placing the cable underneath the rear of the mic. This is common practice.

That's what I currently do.   Still want a boom... :-)

I currently use this http://www.guitarcenter.com/DR-Pro-DR259-MS1500BK-Low-Profile-Mic-Boom-Stand-101810141-i1170321.gc

$58, and the mic reaches the floor for ground plane measurements.
