Multiple HPFs?
« on: August 20, 2014, 06:12:22 PM »

Hey All,

What are your thoughts on engaging the HPF switch on QSC amps when they are power for fully digitally processed speakers.  I've read a fair bit on how using multiple HPFs can be problematic and I'm curious on people's thoughts.

So if I've got a fully digitally processed speaker, should the amp HPF be IN or OUT?

Best,

Phil

Depends on what your digital processing has done to the signal before it comes to the amplifier?

Depends on if you need to filter out lower frequencies, so the subs can handle them?

Depends on what the lpf on your subs is?

Depends on whether or not you even have subs?

As Ivan would say, "It Depends."

Out, unless you have the IN for everything.  That way the delay caused by the HPF will be consistent throughout the whole system.

Let's see:
1: We don't know what QSC amps they are.

2: We don't know if it is the 30 or 50Hz position.

3: We don't know what the speakers are

4: We don't know what the processing is (is it inside a powered speaker-or is there a processor involved)

5: We don't know if these are subs or full range cabinets

And so forth

AS USUAL-DETAILS MATTER and IT DEPENDS!!!!!!!!!!!

We also don't know what your full-REAL name is. I'm sure the mod-squad will be by shortly to lock this thread and send you a friendly reminder....

If you wouldn't sign a check that way, I don't think it counts as a real name.
