Go find a Home Depot or college parking lot after hours and do laps driving backwards. Practice is the only way to get the "feel" of it and learning how to put it where you want it.

Another geometrical factor, aside from the length of the trailer, is the distance between the rear axle of the tow vehicle and the point of articulation. A greater offset magnifies the rotation of the trailer caused by rotation of the tow vehicle about its rear axle. A fifth wheel, which is articulated right above the rear axle(s) is easiest. Combine something like a "15 passenger" van, which has a huge rear overhang, with a short trailer and you'll have a handful.

A tool for truly desperate situations is a front hitch. It's actually really easy to push a trailer where you want it. Seeing where you're going around the trailer is still a problem though.

Back up very slowly, and never farther than you have to -- no matter what you're driving  ;)

I'd much rather back a 16ft trailer than a 10ft....

The longer the better.  I can back up a 30 foot semi-trailer in a straight line but a little trailer goes wherever it wants to, despite the advice given to me.  i.e. "if it goes to the left, steer left, if it goes to the right, steer right".

In a previous life, I drove one of those 10-wheel tow truck thingys.
Backing up a semi is no big deal (for me). For excitement, try a B-train.
Wrecker, Tractor, Trailer#1, Dolly, Trailer#2. (that's 44 wheels, 42 on the ground if anyone's counting)
4 hinges gets real exciting, real fast. That fucking dolly is only about 5 ft between 5th wheel and pintle hook!
had to get a rig off the Mercier Bridge one afternoon. Blew out an oil line on the up-ramp. Cops wouldn't let me tow it across the bridge due to more oil leaking. Made me back it down.
Fun.  Real fun.

In England, we're only allowed to have one trailer (unless you're part of a funfair or circus).  I would love to try it though!

Apparently this is the sort of thing our friends Down Under do:

I remembered seeing something about it on Discovery Channel a while back.

Great isn't it?!!!

They even have their own roads straight through the middle of roundabouts.

I have many friends who are bikers and do quite a few biker events.  (I sold mine, but hope to replace it soon.)  They rely on each other on the road and are usually willing to share their hands, backs and abilities with anyone who asks as long as you don't knock over a bike......  :-)

This party was in Billerica on Connelly Road.
All went well until the police came at 9:30 and told us we had until 10:00 and then they'd pull the plug.
