Soundcraft RNG value?
« on: July 29, 2014, 04:24:33 PM »

Hi all,

I am using a Soundcraft Vi1 and there is a parameter in the gates and de-essers labeled 'RNG'.  I haven't seen this on other gates before, and the manual (very helpfully) states '(RNG) encoder adjusts the attenuation RNG value in the range 0 to -60dB'.

What does this do?

It sets the "range" for the amount of reduction.  Might be thought of as depth.  If you want the signal fully attenuated, set the range to max value.  If you only want 6dB reduction, set it accordingly.
