PLX3402 scratchy pots
« on: November 15, 2014, 01:04:23 PM »

Can DeOxit or some other cleaner be used on these pots to remove the scratchiness. Recommendations?

Awful answer I know but....it depends. Sometimes these pots respond nicely to Cramolin (and stay good for a while) and sometimes the result is disappointingly temporary. PLXs have been around now since 1998 so some of the older troopers can benefit from a pair of new pots - only $7.30/pair from the mothership. http://www.qscparts.com/pt310000cr.html

I've got several PLX 2402 and 3402, and I've had some problems with the pots. I have no answer, since I haven't fixed mine, but I have two that need it right now.

I've used plain old Radio Shack contact cleaner with very good success......complete success really..
There's a QSC service bulletin I couldn't find, that says to rotate the pots back and forth something like 20 to 40 times after spraying. Quite common problem it seems....
And POTs are cheap at least, if cleaning doesn't work http://www.qscparts.com/poandkn.html

With most amps by the time you've opened them up enough to get the cleaner into the pot you're only a half-hour of bench time away from having new pots installed, and they're pretty cheap as someone else mentioned.

Considering the pots are the weakest link I replace them at the first sign of suspicion.

Easier to replace them, or use my unorthodox method of a light shot of WD-40.

Always a worthwhile technique … assuming you were planning to replace the pots before the next show anyway.  :P ;D
