What Glue For Speaker Recone?
« on: June 19, 2014, 09:47:04 AM »

I'm going to re-cone my EV SX300 speakers using the EV re-cone kit (p/n 85587XX). There are lots of "how to" videos online, but none seem to say which type of glue to use for the cone, spider and dust cap.

What do you suggest?

Thanks, Simon

I've never re coned myself for fear of making it worse. I believe it is rubber cement that you use though

Different adhesives are used, depending on manufacturer's designs and specifications.

Check with EV for recommended glues to use.

Parts Express carries some small bottles of various adhesives for speaker repair:

I suspect you can contact either company for specific recommendations regarding an EV recone kit.

Best regards,

John

paper/cloth to each other or to metal

Moyen RS-3087 speaker service cement
MG Chemical 8337

for foam-metal, foam-paper
modified PVA

some manufacturers and reconers are moving towards cyrano adheasives but they have an exptemly short open time and little forgivness

Looking at retiring. Local PA market has shrank to 2 guys with guitars and bose l1 compacts or expecting full line array and 16 movers on stage for $300... no middle left going back to event DJ stuff, half the work for twice the pay.
