IPAD Air
« on: May 27, 2014, 08:07:05 AM »

Is anybody using the IPad Air for remote mixing?

I have an IPad 2 that works great. I was told by the sales guy at the Apple store everything was backwards compatible...

Is it?

As long as you don't rely on the old (30 pin?) connector (for something like the mackie DL1608), you should be fine with an air.

I still have my ipad2 and it's been great

Sorry DR...;)

I've been a PC guy most of my life. But since I bought the I Pad I'm surprised at how much I use it.

Now the I Pad Air only weights 1 pound...Am I just getting older?

I've gone to using the I Pad for most of the shows I do. Way easier than pulling out a snake and mixer...

Just wondering if it will in fact run all the remote software for the Yamaha and Presonus mixers...

Bob it does indeed work without any issues. I'm currently typing this on my iPad Air and use it myself for dozens of shows per year.

The iPad Air should be able to run anything the iPad 2 ran, and more.

However, if you're running an older iOS on your iPad 2, you'll need to make sure that the apps you are using are compatible with the newest OS.  The vast majority work fine, but some apps need to be updated in order to work.

The iPad air is a major improvement over the iPad 2.  Once you use an air, going back seems cumbersome.

Re: IPAD Air - Stagemix available?

On a side note, has anyone had any issues getting Stagemix? I just tried to download a copy, and the Yamaha site sends me to the App Store, which tells me it isn't available in the US store. This seems odd.

Mac...

Try going directly to the App Store and search for Yamaha Stage mix.  I just did and it showed M7, LS9 and Cl versions.

I have the 1, the Mini, and the Air. StageMix runs fine on all of them. The one I almost always use for remote mixing, though, is the Mini. The size is just way more convenient, and it fits in a suit jacket pocket, so I don't have to look for a place to set it down when I'm adjusting mics or whatever. No trouble readng the screen or grabbing faders with these 50-something year old eyes. They're also really cheap, unlike my fully loaded Air. You can get a base model Mini for <$250, and it's plenty to run remote software, analysis tools, and hold all the manuals for everything.

seconded.  i gave my iPad retina [full size] to my wife because all i was using was my mini, even though my Full size is a 64 Gig and my mini is only 16.

+2
My kids got the full size, I kept the mini. Perfect size to run around on stage and still be able to hold/handle other items.
