"It's number one, it's Top of the Pops!"
Ray Davies (The Kinks) take:
"I've just come in at Number 25
I'm oh so happy, so glad to be alive
And everybody says it's going to get to the top
Life is so easy when your record's hot.
(snip)
It's strange how people want you when you record's high
'Cos when it drops down they just pass you by
Now my agent just called me and said it me:
"Son your record's just got to Number One." "
Ah, the fickle pop music business. The Kinks weren't the only ones to write about the power of Top of the Pops. Here's a tune from a band most of you have probably never heard of (but should), The Rezillos, with their take. It's from a competing British show on ITV call Revolver. There is another version of them actually playing on TOTP, but the audio is much poorer and they cut it short.
