Need To Purchase Moving Lights - What's Out There?
« on: June 25, 2014, 04:18:14 PM »

I need to purchase four (4) moving lights in the $800 price range.  They need to be LED fixtures with dmx adjustable focus and zoom.

Need advice on what is out there.

At a little over your budget ($900) is the Chauvet Intimidator Spot 350....  I haven't used it, but on paper it looks like it might meet your needs. Mark C.

What's the application? where will it be used? How big of a stage? How bright will the ambient lighting be? there's a lot more info needed to to recommend something. Moving heads can be bought from $300-$50,000

These will be used in a band (corporate functions, parties) environment.  The stages vary but mostly hotel ballrooms and event centers.

Quality zoom and focus for under 2k is difficult to find.... Under 1k - unrealistic.

You won't find remote focus or zoom in that price range.

The Intimidator Spot 350 has dmx focus, but manual zoom.

5 degrees of variability does not constitute the fixture having a zoom function...zoom would be somewhere around 20-30 degrees minimum of operating differential

for $800, you're options are virtually non-existent, even in the used market, for LED profiles with both Zoom and Focus functions.

For small venues, you most likely won't need a zoom function....an Iris function would likely be handy, however, and can be found in a bunch of smaller moving lights
