More Good Eats
« on: April 19, 2014, 03:10:05 PM »

One of my music buddies is setting up a sound gig today in the wilds of West Virginia, and offered me a can of Creamed Possum in Coon Fat Gravy if I show up to help. You know, I'm tempted to go just to see if this is a real thing or not, but 'm sort of scared to find out for sure.

Looks like it has a shelf-life of at least 100 years, like Spam and Twinkies  ;D

But how would you know it'd gone bad?

There are places around here that sell this (or something VERY similar).

It usually right beside the grits----------------Just kidding-about the grits

It usually right beside the grits--
If you don't like chicken, there's also Cheeseburger in a Can for those really horrible gigs. See the review here: http://www.avclub.com/article/taste-test-cheeseburger-in-a-can-2183 Note that the review picture looks a lot worse than the pretty promotional shot.

Note, I don't think any animals were harmed or killed in the making of this cheeseburger (because roadkill is already long dead).

Much rather have that then get home and have the wife ask,

"What would you like tonight dear, spotted dick, or Russian fish mouths??"

I almost gagged when I saw this picture. They'll put anything in a can, won't they?

I see that the Spotted Dick is microwavable. That's some good eats...

Also, if I take a sound gig in Russia, do I get Canned Fish Mouths for a snack? My last name means "falcon" in Russian and is a very common name over there. But I'm actually a Hungarian who had his family name changed on Ellis Island accidentally. I do like the Sokol Coat of Arms from the Moscow Municipality. Oh yes, I'll bring back enough Canned Fish Mouths for everyone. Someone else will have to bring the Spotted Dick.  :o

A delicacy is something your ancestors ate because they were starving.

From http://mojakka.com/memories.htm :
Quote
" Auntie didn't waste her filets on soup, so by this time wide eyed fish heads could be counted on popping up to the surface. It was made with milk, cornstarch, whole black peppers, potatoes, carrots, lots of onion and of course the meaty fish heads. It sounds unimaginably gross today, yet to everyone from the hayfield it was absolutely delicious."
