New Sound Devices Dante and MADI audio recorder.
« on: April 02, 2014, 12:55:59 PM »

Don't know if this is the right place to post this...

Just got and email about this and it seems pretty slick.

Sound devices 970

Half rack dante, madi, analog, and aes recorder.

64 Audio Tracks
32 Audio Tracks at 96k
8 Analog Line Level I/O
Supports Dante, MADI, & AES
Records BWF, Mono, & Poly Files
Redundant power connection
10 second PowerSafe power reserve
Ideal for cart based mixers & large format reality shows
No video inputs
Controllable via web interface
Built-in Ambient Lockit Time Code Generator/Reader

Also lets you record onto 4 drives at the same time.  Good for redundancy and a quick client handoff

Looks like around $4499

I know the Sound Devices guys really well and they know their stuff and stand behind their products.

I love my joeco dante box but gonna check this out a NAB for sure.

Also if it's anything like the dante integration in their pix260 the selection and mapping is killer. Don't need a computer.

Exactly.

In fact, a 970 and a 270i side by side in a 2u rack would be a killer live recording setup. Completely redundant audio recordings and video recording for reference and mixdown.

That's pretty cool. But man, 5,000 bones is a lot. You're half way to a Protools HD Native system at that point.

True, but only half way. And protools is hardly a mission-critical recording platform! I would compare it to a Boom Recorder setup running on a Mac Mini with a Yamaha Dante Accelerator card. But thats more than 5k once you have a chassis for the card, the mac, the card, etc...

Yeah and if you compare it to the price of a dante or madi joecoe box that only does one standard it's a great price.
