Question about Processing
« on: April 02, 2014, 07:40:22 PM »

Hello everyone i am looking into buying 12 L-Acoustics Kudo's and 8 Sb28 Sub's with LA8's for amps. My Question is if money was no issue would buying a Dolby Lake processor be useful? or is the LA8 enough?

Thanks

Dolby is good for old l acoustics but with their newer amps indont think you need it.

For that specific system LA8s would be plenty, you can EQ and delay as needed in the amps. I would put a 31 band graphic if you are using an analog desk just for ease of use on the fly, but if you are using any modern digital desk it will have it built in.

For larger rigs, Mains LR, Side Hang LR, Delays LR, Front Fills, Subs, etc. I would definitely have some form of external system processor/ matrix setup, but it is not needed for a rig like that.

12 KUDOs is a fair chunk of money. Presets for that particular box were difficult. I'd get a question to Paul Bauman (who was with L'Acoustics during KUDO development) before I'd plunk down cash.

Agreed. No matter what though, it never would voice seamlessly with other L'Acoustics boxes. I think a lot of it had to do with the different compression driver diaphragms and smaller throat size. They were selling them with K1 as fill hangs for a while. The transition walking from K1 to KUDO zones was so obvious even with the latest presets. The K2 is looking like a solid replacement. Looking forward to hearing it.

We've got a kudo rig for sale, 18 boxes.

LA8s are fine system controllers if you have the entire rig running on them and networked.

If you're looking to buy new, I would definitely look at K2 over Kudo.
