Is there a decent midrange laser?
« on: March 27, 2014, 11:22:02 PM »

I'm curious about lasers and I know nothing of them. Is there a middle ground between the DJ junk and the high powered stadium sized lasers?

Hopefully something controllable with software, but still a manageable size that doesn't require a team all on its own.

There are quite a few out there that might suit you, but they are all frequently used in violation of the federal restrictions. I've installed several of the X-Laser products, and have had very good results, but I am very careful to adhere to the "3 meter" rule. Most mobile operators that I have seen pay no attention to the restrictions and spray the beam(s) all over the room.
I've used both the Caliente and the Mobile Beat RGB, but only with DMX. The capabilities are much better with a PC and the appropriate software.
Of course, presentation is everything. If you can't use fog/haze, and have to deal with a lot of ambient light the effect will be disappointing.

to be legal in the states. an X laser product w/ pangolin quick show or  Beyond software package / dongle is your best bet.

after being legal. the other thing you really want are Analog Lasers and not TTL lasers ( what you see mostly on e bay)
with Analog lasers you can mix 3 colors to make 16.8million colors by
with a TTL you really only get 7 colors and the laser runs at full voltage the entire time and burns up much faster
