QU16 mix routing help
« on: March 08, 2014, 11:35:55 AM »

I am struggling with something. I have not been routing the FX to the monitors till now - no-one requested it.
Today, I have been setting up my new iem's  - loving it by the way. I just tried to send a little FX to one mix. I cannot work it out. I have tried the various routing options from the manual but cannot get any fx through to the monitor mix. Not sure what I am missing here??? Can someone help me out?.................. Dick? Corey ?

Quick edit......I am able to get FX through the mix when I recall a different scene.  I just cannot work out why I can't get FX on this one scene recall.

Not enough info.  I'm strapped for time for the next week doing theater and trying to keep the melt water out from under the shingles so it doesn't soak the interior walls.  You'll probably have it figured out by the time I get back on the Qu-16.  Using the StudioLive for the theater strictly for the sub-groups and expanders.

Thanks Dick anyway....I think your roof issue is bit more important than my question he he...
Enjoy the Studiolive...nice to be able to compare it to the A&H.....
Have fun !

Regarding getting you a bit more info though .....

If I recall any other scene that I have previously set up, I can go straight to layer 2 and increase FX 1 and FX2 to my monitor mixes.  That makes sense to me and is working fine.
However, today I was setting up my iem's for the first time and went to increase the monitor mix FX sends on one particular scene recall and couldn't get anything. It is the one scene which I use more than most - for one particular band - and I must have been playing around with the routing at some point recently and saved it to that scene because if I try to do what I just said with the faders on layer 2, I get no FX thru the monitor mixes no matter where the faders are.
I have compared back and forth from other scenes to this one but cannot see anything differently routed.
At the very worst, as a solution to the problem, I can copy over my 'generic' scene setting I have set up and tweak everything for this band to get close to where I had everything set.. After all, that is where I would be with an analog board anyway right? I am just spoiled and I have worked hard on this scene settings.
The only problem with resorting to that as a solution is that I'll never know what I did to cause the problem in the first place and there is no learning in that......

I've never used a Qu16...

You have potentially several settings that effect the EFX on aux channels

1. individual channel sends to FX aux/bus
2. master FX aux/bus send fader which feeds the FX engine
3. FX aux/bus return, which should be independent for each monitor aux bus
4. there could potentially be a separate on/off setting for the FX bus returns to each aux monitor mixes (the GLD has this)
5. There may also be a pre/post fader setting for the returns to the aux busses

If 1 & 2 aren't set right, you won't get the verb anywhere.

Some things to look for....

Roof clearing nicely, but gutters full of ice...

Things to check:

FX "applied" on the "back panel" of the reverb....for each and every scene.  It may have come un-ticked by accident.

Are you seeing incoming signal levels on the tiny, itty-bitty meters on the FX unit screen?

Is the FX return channel turned on (assigned/enabled) for the Mix?

Just a few guesses.  I've had "gremlins" bite me on FX a few times, but less and less often now.

Good luck.

PS

Have you thought about returning the reverb to the IEM's by inserting them on the mix rather than doing the mix > return?

Hey Mark and Dick,

Thanks for the 'pointers'. I'll go through everything tomorrow again and work this thing out. I know I've simply hit something by mistake or I was simply trying to learn what something does and in doing so I've caused this issue.
It's not the worse problem in the world but very frustrating especially if I don't find the cause.....

Dick...Let's hope for a 'controllable' thaw !!!

Disclaimer:  not a Qu owner or user, and I didn't bother to download the manual...

If your FX return to a specific "Return" fader/knob, there should be bus and aux (monitor) sends, just like on a regular mic input.  Just turn up the FX's aux send for the monitor mix.

Since you have this problem with a saved scene, you probably have the FX aux sends turned off/down in that scene or routed somewhere off in the ozone.

But that's the thing... all the aux send faders are up just like they are on all the other scenes. That's why a setting has to be routed off somewhere into   that ozone !
