Soundcraft Si Expression vs Performer
« on: February 25, 2014, 01:18:50 PM »

Looking to upgrade to a new board (coming from a Studiolive 24) and the Expression has been at the top of my list for some time.  But, I keep looking at the Performer, and while a lot more expensive, seems to have several more features that will come in handy.  I'm not as much worried about the DMX interface (while it would be nice to have though), but having 8 VCA's, full 4-band parametric EQ, scribble strips, 20 auxes, etc. looks to make it a very promising board.  Seems like live recording is out of the question with it though it appears...can anyone comment on both and can make it more valid to me that the Performer is worth the extra $$?

Why is live recording out of the question? It has two option slots.

I figured that out not long after I posted this...it's just not recommended for a dedicated recording board, but it can still multitrack from a show.  I need to wake up more before I post sometimes.

With the DANTI card you have a direct interface with Pro Tools. I would call that a reordering console.

The Si Performer - the desk the Compact/Expression always should have been - except for the *stupid* price...

That's the only killer on it, is the price.  But, if the price is worth the extra features, I'll go with it.

I'd expect to see a price drop shortly, given that it's about twice the price of the Midas M32.
