DMX terminator
« on: January 26, 2014, 10:29:46 AM »

Hey I need to make a terminator, I don't have any 120 Ohm resistors. Will a 150 ohm work? Or how about 100?
Figures, I've got both of those just no 120 or anything to equal to 120

The booklet "Recommended Practice for DMX512" states 120 ohms as the standard, but goes on to say that the characteristic impedance of DMX cables varies from 85-150 ohms. I would go ahead and use 150 if that's all you have. Probably few people have the ability to measure the actual impedance of the cable they happen to be using. Could look it up I guess but it probably won't make any real difference. The greater effect would be terminating versus not terminating.

The 150 solved my problems this time...
