Anyone tried M7CL/PM5D clock with UAD Apollo?
« on: January 19, 2014, 04:10:06 AM »

Since the UAD Apollo can be a master clock. Has anyone tried to use it to clock with any Yamaha(or others) consoles?
How is that sound?

Thank you very much.

The same as any other clock, internal or external.

Sorry, I've never tried to use a clock machine since I don't have one.
I was told that clocking with ext. master clock makes differences on consoles.
The reason I ask is because I am considering to purchase a Apollo for recording, thinking if the clocking thing makes benefit to Yamaha consoles which I most using in jobs, that would makes one more good reason to me to purchase a Apollo.

Now I know this is a silly question.
Thank you for all your links and replies.
cheers

Greetings Zeno-

Welcome to the Live Audio Board.

External clocking of digital mixers solely for the purpose of perceived *improvement* to the audio was discussed here within the last 3 months.  You might try to use the search tool provided on the forum and find the thread as there were some very good links to references that show why and how the MIDI word clock cannot, by itself, influence the audio path.

In other words, it is a myth... a lie... that adding a clock will make a Yamaha sound like a Studer, etc.  That said, if your customers think they hear a change they are willing to pay for, by all means bring the Apollo and increase your fee. :)

However, if you use multiple digital consoles or other products that communicate digitally, an external clock can make word clock signal distribution much more stable.  In those cases, as in your studio, the clock would be the proper tool.
