4 ohm sp118

is $500 a good price for a pair of these ? they are in good shape  Just don't know about them being 4 ohm

As with everything PV you first have to ask.. what vintage SP118 are we talking about here? The latest box is complete junk with earlier versions being more highly regarded but neither version had a proper subwoofer driver in it so these boxes are pretty much limited to 50hz and up if you want any SPL out of them.

They aren't the newest version as Peavey doesn't make them in 4 ohm anymore as far as how old they are I'm not sure They do have a speakon connection if that helps

Given these are entry level speakers I think they decided to make them 4ohm to better utilize the amplifiers that were available at the time.. this speaker line goes back to when an amplifier capable of 500w at 4ohms per channel was BIG. Now a days it wouldn't be a problem at all to find a cheap amp that could completely destroy these things but the upside is it's easier than ever to get the most out of a speaker system, and there is no inherent downside to a 4ohm speaker unless you want to connect more than 2 to a single non touring grade amplifier.
