To be clear, when it comes to media converters, compatibility with the switch is the issue. They are all transparent as far as Dante is concerned as they are OSI Layer 1 devices (they just convert an electrical signal to an optical one on the 'Physical Layer'. They don't care what the electrical signal is).
Pretty much all the SFP fibre media converters in the world are made by Finisar, and they re-badged by different companies.
In order to make tons of money, companies like Cisco and HP only allow use of their own branded SFPs. They do this because the SFP standard allows for an ID bit that is read by the switch. Manufacturers can use this ID to discriminate against third party SFPs.
