EAW cabs and ferrofluid
« on: December 27, 2013, 11:54:44 PM »

Does anyone know if either EAW's FR159z or SB180z have ferrofluid in thier drivers??
Just curious as I store my stuff in the truck all year evan cold winters.

I don't know whether your particular cabinets use ferrofluid, but storage temperature does not make a difference "with or without".

If they do have ferrofluid, it will heat up once the speakers are used, though it will take a bit of time before the viscosity thins down.

Drivers without ferofluid can have enough frozen condensation in the gaps to be "locked up" for a while, best to be conservative when starting up gear stored well below freezing temperatures.
Generally the time spent setting up and wiring a system is adequate for it to come up to operating temperature, but from -40F it may need 3-4 hours if the venue is cold and damp.

Art,Yea I allways try to let my stuff warm up as long as possible befor firing it up in the winter.I just didn't know if the cold was bad for ferrofluid.I know the EAW handbook said to avoid freezing temps and I got worried.

If it ever gets cold enough to freeze ferro fluid here I'll move back to the desert.

For the probable freezing point see: http://www.ferrolabs.com/en/products/1/
