One of the only truly great statesmen of my lifetime. Now we have none. RIP.

In my life I have be lucky to witness the ascendancy of Martin Luther King, Cassius Clay/Mohammed Ali, and Nelson Mandela. OTOH it is a shame that western culture was/is so twisted as to need those voices of sanity and justice.

BTW- No more "Statesman", maybe. "Statesperson" ?  Elizabeth Warren is alive and well and scaring Wall Street with logic and reason.

All men (and women) are brothers.

It will be interesting to see if Ms Warren or anyone else will rise to the level of Mr. Mandela.  These kinds of leaders are forged in the crucible of events beyond their initial ability to influence, and then "made" by the eventual influence they wield.

Agree to all.

I wasn't the first to go political, however.

In a similar vein, it is not up to us to name our Era - stone/bronze/etc.

Many are deeming this the information/electronic/etc age. My vote goes to "Chemistry", but, because I am still alive, it is a WTFDIK sitch.

Nelson Mandela was a remarkable person for how he lead his country out of apartheid, peacefully despite huge personal sacrifice that would have turned a lesser leader to retaliate for past transgressions.

Yes, Martin Luther King was made of similar stuff and an agent for peace between the races.

Cassius Clay, followed his conscience(?) to not enter military service when drafted, unlike the vast majority of us who were called and did serve. I do not see him rising to the level of King or Mandela. EW IMO does not even deserve discussion.

Lets respect Mandela's memory. A truly great man who is no longer with us. There are other's from other countries with vaguely comparable histories still playing out, but now is not the time to make such a list.
