I strongly recommend trying the Audix OM7 for live vocal recordings where a band is involved.
I love my Heils but the rejection from the OM7 is outstanding and invaluable. 
I've never suffered from a problem with vocalists backing off the OM7 too much once they're told to 'eat the mic'.

Those are very nice.  Even the AE3300 is a fine mic, but the 5400 is just sweeter.

Yes.  The 3300 has a lot (too much?) vocal presence peak in the upper midrange, the 5400 less so, while the E965 shifts the boost upward closer to "air" and sounds the most natural.  I like all 3, in reverse order, depending on voce and music style.

even the Heil PR-22 is very clean, if I may say so, these microphones make the rest of the "chain" reveal their flaws?
-I think Mr Heil is an angel in disguise!

Actually, the OP had a very specific purpose.  Specificity precludes versatility unless, of course, versatility beyond his combined purpose is the object.

True, though the Neuman is polar pattern switchable by replacing the mic.  The e965 and KSM9 are in the same price range, same sound quality range and give both with a switch adjustment.  I've put a e965 on an avid KMS104 fan who liked it every bit as much as the KMS104 in a side-by-side comparison.  He preferred the KMS104 to the e865 and is a musician/producer with a discerning ear.

ergo, if I'm going to recommend someone a ~$700 mic, I'd go for the more versatile microphone rather than just meeting the current specific application.
