Luke,I think from what I'm reading above, and I could be wrong, is that your goal was to have two (2) people working on the same board at the same time, FOH and monitors. If that's the case and the LS9 is capable of performing that function for you in the manner you like then it's the right board for you. You mention "independent" aux control and separate EQ for monitor channels. The Expression is capable of all that and more, however, I did not work with the lower levels of firmware which may have accounted for your results at the time.
Sure thing Bob.The workflow is almost hindering in a way such that only one thing can be done at a time. Example:While mixing a live show, I am using reverb and delay on a lead vocal of a classic rock cover band. A particular part in a song arrives where all of the dry vocal must be pulled out of the mains and only the wet be left (the original song was done this way also to my knowledge). The FX sends are not switchable from post fader send to pre fader send. The only work around that I am aware of is to create a subgroup for the vocal, route the vocal to the L&R master buss, and when that part in the song arrives pull down the subgroup from the mains, leaving the wet effect. Process works, but I lose a potential mix bus.Another example of poor workflow is apparent in the lack of a "library" and the scene recall function. Just feels lacking or rushed-to-market for me.
Yes that is the goal I was trying to produce. At the time the Si had no option to create dual mirrored layers and the I-pad app was only able to do a few things. The auxiliaries were only either pre, or post eq and was a fixed aux structure much like a standard analog desk. A simpler way to get around that would be to turn the channel off in the main mix. As far as I know almost all digital mixers allow the assignment of the channel to L/R, Mono and LCR. If you turn the channel off in the main mix the sends going to auxiliaries and FX will still work. This will leave only the wet sound from the FX return to be heard in the PA.
Ah yes, but then there is just a hard cut from turning the send to L/R on and then off. The problem exists deeper in that you can not make a FX send pre instead of post.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Have you made a decision yet??
It took you years, Bob. Give him some time to digest.
