If the player likes the sound of their bass rig, I generally put a mic in front of it. Problem solved.
Er, no, doesn't stop the pop. Might be slightly less unpleasant, though.
I enjoy the Neutrik switching plugs, but have *occasionally* had problems with them not staying in a socket reliably. Bear in mind that it's a spring loaded collar that triggers the switch, so it may push itself back out of a socket that doesn't have a firm hold on a jack plug.
Anecdotally, the finger of suspicion pointed to Monster cables having been used previously with those guitars - didn't we all determine that they use a non-standard, bigger plug to improve connection - which can also distort the internals on some sockets to make them less reliable on standard jack plugs?
