Ours at work is one of those "built-in" models with cabinet front doors that match the cabinets in the kitchen; it's definitely got a "high-end" feel to it although, like I said, we've had several problems with it in the past 5 or 6 months. Usually it would stop cooling in the refrigerator section and we'd have to have a repair person come out.

Back in the old days, the freezer and refrigerator had separate evaporator coils.  These days there is a freezer evap, and a fan that blows the air down into the refrigerator compartment.

When the freezer mostly works but the fridge is 50F, the fan motor is probably bad.

Just wondering why the dealer didn't push an all-Viking kitchen.

I believe it's a contractor-supplier handshake issue.  ;) But they do look really impressive together

I need a new refrigerator. Standard 30x30x69, French doors, bottom freezer, easy access to 6 packs is a plus. 2K limit.

I'm thinking LG or Kenmore. ???   What kind of refrigerator should I buy.

If you haven't gotten it yet there will be Big sales Memorial Weekend.   My new Kenmore Elite French door unit is really an LG.  The only major difference between the Elite and the regular Kenmore is that the opening for the Ice-maker/water dispenser is larger on the Elites.
When pricing out who to buy from, don't forget delivery/removal fees- that can make a huge difference.  Also check with your power company, they may do rebates for higher efficiency units, or they may have programs to pay you to take old inefficient units away.
I had an old Kenmore Upright freezer Progress Energy paid me $50 to haul away and dispose :)

I just screwed up. I ordered Kitchenaid from Sears that met all the requirements and more. My wife, (chirping over my shoulder) says "That's what I want, just order it. So $2900 and 5 minutes later I'm on the phone with Sears cancelling the order because it's too f**king big. This is torture and I'm about ready to buy a cooler and a block of ice, put a mothers day card on it, and call it a day.

OK, bought the Kenmore / LG at the link below. I'm amazed at the space and features, but that's to be expected when you replace a fridge that's 20 years old. Storage is more than I need, and the roll out 2 drawer freezer can hold very large items, maybe even 4-6 turkeys, and still have room for everything else you could want to put in it. All the bells and whistles, yada, yada. So there goes my new Gibson ES-345, but it's made a great mothers day gift.

You didn't have to.  Be happy.

There are 2 kinds of problems:  the kind you can fix with money, and the kind you can't.

Wiser words have seldom been written Tim. She's happy, and I'm happy. When the time is right I'll have the 345, but right now the time is hers, and 37 years later I'll still do what it takes to give her what she wants.
