Limited Support for Last Generation Itechs?
« on: April 24, 2013, 05:43:54 PM »

I took an 8K in for service yesterday and the authorized service center said that Crown only had "limited support" for the old Itechs now and they might not fix it.  Any corroboration from anyone on that?

Last I had heard (about a year ago while I had mine) was that Crown was charging a flat rate bench fee to work on them, if I recall it was somewhere around $800.
I was lucky to have never needed service on either of mine.

The last "flat fee" I heard for original I-Techs was $640.

i could be wrong, but I thought it was a $600 fee and then they discontinued the policy.  I had one repaired less than a year ago by Crown and it $400-something.  I've got a half dozen Itechs and if they become unrepairable it's going to be a tough nut to swallow to upgrade, at least for me.

I was charged $640 about a year and a half ago for work done on a 6000. They replaced the power supply and fixed some issues with the fan.

The flat rates are still in effect.  And they are still supported for sure.  Your service center probably wanted to up sell you on some HD's.  Which is a excellent upgrade.  I made the switch from 6000's to all 12000HD's last year.

I paid around 350 for a flat rate repair on an IT 4000 last year.  I seem to remember they said the flat rate would be different if they had to change out the main board or something like that.  Didn't entirely sound like a flat rate to me.

My problem was apparently a minor one and the IT4K is the smallest I-Tech, so repairs definitely won't be any cheaper that that.

Good to hear.  $640 is fine with me as long as they still support them.  I will not be upgrading anytime soon if I can avoid it.  Too much month at the end of the money.

I am delighted to report that the amp came back from Crown and they covered it under warranty.  No charge.  Totally unexpected and another thumbs up to Crown service.
