HDMI pattern generator
« on: March 08, 2013, 03:07:56 pm »

Does anyone have any experience good or bad with HDMI pattern generators?

I currently have a Kramer 840HDMI but it's inadequate for my needs.  I want something that can read EDID and timings as well as HDCP functions.  ie something that I can trouble shoot with.

I would love to get the Quantum Data 780, but at $3600 it's a bit hard to justify.

The Gefen GTV-HD-MPSG looks like a pretty decent option, but I'm wondering what you guys like.

Cheers

http://www.extron.com/product/software.aspx?id=edidmanager on a PC or laptop can read EDID data and it's free!

As far as a pattern generator, not HDMI but http://www.extron.com/product/product.aspx?id=vtg400dvi&subtype=44&s=4 may do what you want with its DVI-D output and an adapter cable.

Thanks for the suggestions Brad.  I have the extron EDID program loaded, as well as a couple of others that I've been using.  And I have the Extron VTG300 (http://www.extron.com/product/product.aspx?id=vtg300&subtype=44&item=0&s=3) pattern generator, which is a solid and useful piece of gear.

I'm looking for something similar in the HDMI realm.  My main priorities are embedded audio, and HDCP testing.  Laptops for this kind of stuff can be used, but are cumbersome.

Cheers
