Question about IEM setup on M7CL
« on: March 02, 2013, 12:17:16 PM »

What is the best practice when setting up outputs on a M7 for In-Ears when you also have to run FOH from the same board.  Should they be set at {PRE EQ} or {PRE FADE}.

Thanks!

Outputs should be "post everything."

Depending on your inputs, I would do pre fader and let your FOH eq effect the IEMs as well. Most inputs like drums/vocals can get pretty muddy without some eq. Just remember to double patch vocals so the singers are not being compressed in their IEMs

If you are under 24 inputs for the band, why not double patch everything to say the top level of faders for IEMs. You may not even need to patch everything to IEMs so even if you are over 24 inputs this may still work. Send mixes from the top row of faders, mix the house with the bottom row and keep your 4 stereos for FX/playback etc.

Outputs should be "post everything."

Monitors should definitely be PRE when running from FOH.
Whether it's pre fade or pre EQ kinda depends on the instruments and musicians. If you have a lot of EQ on each of the channels then you might want to go pre EQ

If it's a dedicated monitor console, it depends on the setup and the engineer's preference, but generally it's POST.
